The Degrees of Comparison
· Definisi dan Pengertian
The Degrees of Comparison dapat dibedakan menjadi tiga macam, yaitu Positive Degree, Comparative Degree dan Superlative Degree
1. Positive Degree (Tingkat Biasa atau Tingkat Perbandingan)
Digunakan untuk membandingkan 2 benda atau orang yang sama (bentuk, sifat dan kecakapan).
2. Comparative Degree (Tingkat Lebih atau Kurang)
Digunakan untuk membandingkan 2 benda atau orang yang berbeda yang memiliki kelebihan atau kekurangan dibandingkan dengan benda yang dibandingkan.
3. Superlative Degree (Tingkat Paling atau Ter-)
Digunakan untuk membandingkan 1 diantara semua.
Beberapa aturan dalam The Degree of Comparison :
a) Jika positive berakhir dalam dua huruf mati atau dalam satu huruf mati yang didahului oleh dua huruf hidup, -er dan -est ditambahkan

b) Jika positive berakhir dalam satu huruf mati dan huruf mati itu didahului oleh sebuah vokal pendek, huruf mati terakhir digandakan kemudian ditambahkan -er dan -est

c) Jika positive berakhir huruf y, dan y itu didahului oleh huruf mati, y diubah menjadi I, lalu ditambahkan -er dan -est
